WELCOME to the Birmingham Book Festival.

 

October 2010 Programme

 

 

The full programme of events is now released, with some incredible writers and workshops on offer.

Highlights include Lionel Shriver, Jackie Kay, Catherine O’Flynn, John O’Farrell, David Nicholls and Jonathan Coe, plus a panel of new voices. Other events include a keynote exploring the meaning of city of culture, a workshop in Ikon Eastside’s Hitchcock’s Hallway, tea and cake with Jenny Eclair, and exploring human rights with Gareth Peirce. 

We believe all writing is international. We are proud to feature writers from Pakistan (Fatima Bhutto) and from Germany (Jörg Albrecht). British diplomat Philip Barclay brings us an account of Zimbabwe’s violent 2008 elections, and David Shukman, the BBC’s Environment and Science correspondent joins us with tales from his new book, Reporting Live from the End of the World.

Poetry, too, is well represented, with Flarestack press and Pascale Petit, and in other non-fiction events, we are unpicking the credit crunch, and discovering what it means to be a refugee in Birmingham.
